      • NEC and Sony Multisync (or Multiscan) are physically similar but are not interchangeable due to fundamentally different internal pinout assignments for color and sync signals. Multisync name itself was an NEC trade mark and the NEC Multisync Cable is significantly more popular than the Sony version Multiscan adapter cables while Sony produced high-quality monitors.
      • These adapter cables are usually passive that only reroute existing signals. If the source device does not output a video signal compatible with the VGA standard, the adapter cable will not work regardless of the pin connection.
